German Holiday Thumbprint Cookies

December 17th, 2009

If you are trying to avoid the “evil white stuff” (sugar and flour) then I’ve got a great holiday recipe for you!
These German Holiday Thumbprint Cookies are not only made with whole wheat, but are naturally sweetened and filled with healthy goodness.
And I can tell you from personal experience, these little goodies are both wholesome [...]

I was on twitter, where I follow @dominosugar. They had posted about a recipe on their web site called Pumpkin Scotchies. They sounded wonderful, but I wanted to come up with a naturally sweetened version since I haven’t done a naturally sweetened recipe for a while. So this is my adaptation of their recipe.

I’m going out on a limb here. I sorely need a new camera. So instead of trying to capture this event with my current camera, I thought I’d try filming it and taking the photos off my flip camera. The photos are not what I usually post here, but I thought they were cute enough to [...]

June 5th, 2009

OMG!!! I’ve found the PERFECT S’mores cookie recipe!
No joke guys, these are SERIOUSLY good S’mores. These are sooo ooey-gooey right out of the oven.
Alice (the recipe creator) says that they are good cold to, but with all of us sitting around our porch fire pit, they didn’t last long enough for any of us to [...]

If you’ve ever wondered about what sugar does in your cookies, or what kind of substitutes you can use for it, then this is a must read.
What Sugar Does
When it comes to cookies, sugar is not only a sweetener, but also a tenderizer. It caramelizes as it melts, altering the texture of your cookies. The [...]

Sesame Cookies

May 8th, 2009

I’m a “nuts and seed” kinda gal. I love to add seeds to just about anything I cook. So why not include it in my baking?!
I ran across this recipe last week, and realized I had a bag of sesame seeds in my cupboard that had been there almost too long. So I whipped up [...]

And just when you thought it couldn’t get any better…. you don’t even have to bake these puppies! You just roll em’ up, and put them on a platter to [...]

Breakfast Cookies

April 29th, 2009

The cookies are the ideal cookie…. you can have them for breakfast, and not feel guilty!
Well… almost. I might still have to go for my morning run after a few of these. But it’s worth the extra lap around my neighborhood to enjoy these.
The best part is that they are whole grain and naturally sweetened! [...]

Honey Carrot Cookies

April 21st, 2009

Did you know you could eat your cookies and get some veggies too?
Wait! Before you go running in the other direction, I promise, these actually taste good!
Today’s recipe is for Honey Carrot Cookies. Just try them and see. They do actually taste yummy!
I gave them to my unsuspecting husband, and he gobbled several of them [...]

Many of you that come to my blog, do so for cookie recipes that use natural sugars such as honey, rice syrup or agave. If you’ve baked with these natural sugars in the past, you know that the unique attributes they provide are unsurpassed in quality, texture and flavor.
I started to bake with natural sweeteners [...]

Baking without regular, refined sugar is an art. You have to know how to adjust your recipes according to the sweetener you are using. Be prepared to have a few batches flop completely before you get it right. I’ve found that, more often not, even recipes from recipe books, need adjusting.
A lot will depend on [...]
