Spiced Oats Cookies

December 23rd, 2009

There’s something about a spice cookie this time of year that screams “Christmas” from the roof tops. I don’t know if it’s because of the Christmas I spent in Germany where I had tons of these while walking through the amazing Christmas fairs, or if I picked up the habit here in the states.
But either [...]

Hershey Kissy Cookies

December 21st, 2009

Yep… “Kissie’s”.
That’s what my son calls em’, so that’s what we call em’.
Most folks refer to them as Hershey Kiss cookies. Although, in truth, they are not an actual Hershey Kiss cookie either. (You can find a recipe for the genuine article here.)
Nope, this is just something I dreamed up. Any resemblance to any other [...]

A while back, I asked people on Twitter what their favorite cookie recipe is. I got some really yummy responses!
This one in particular caught my eye. I love a soft, spicy, molasses cookie. So when @canterburycabin announced she had a recipe, I just had to try it.
The following recipe made exactly 54 large cookies. They [...]

German Holiday Horn Cookies

December 13th, 2009

The above photo may not look like much, but these little treats pack a truly flavorful punch! This traditional German Holiday Horn Cookie Recipe has been around for 500 + hundred years (or so I’ve been told).
I love this recipe because it is as original now as it was so many years ago. The use [...]

Stained Glass Christmas Cookies

December 3rd, 2009

I could be wrong, but I think these Stained Glass Christmas Cookies would be a beautiful Christmas gift for somebody. I mean, who says you need to spend hundreds of dollars on Black Friday or Cyber Monday (or any other holiday shopping day for that matter)? This is a slow economy, darn it, and I say cookies make a fantastic gift!

To me eggnog is the epitome of Christmas flavor. I love the blend of heavy cream and warm spices, everything about it warms me up and gets me in the holiday spirit. I started making these cookies when I found a version of this recipe on the back of an eggnog container. I’ve adapted it a bit since to give it more spice, and added browned butter icing. I mean, it’s the holiday season, why not go over the top!

Pfeffernüsse

November 6th, 2009

So my little guy and I were lounging around the house in our pj’s while these were baking. I started to feel a bit “lazy” as it was nearly 2pm and we weren’t even thinking about getting dressed (admit it, you’ve had days like that.)….

Speculaas

September 28th, 2009

Oh boy, oh boy! I have a special treat for you today! I get so excited when I come across a recipe like this one. It takes me back to my childhood and the time I spent in Germany as a nanny.
These Speculaas are exactly like the Christmas cookies I ate in Germany. I will [...]

I just love a fun cookie stamp! There are so many different stamps available these days, but this set is a lot of fun. The plate of cookies shown above is a mixture of the following three sets:

~ Cookie Stamp Set – Nature

~ Cookie Stamp Set – Sky

~ Cookie Stamp Set – Love

You can paint [...]

Pepparkakors

December 25th, 2008

I must admit, I had never heard of these cookies before (gulp), until I ran across the recipe while surfing the net.
If you’ve never heard of them either, they are a Swedish Christmas cookie, and apparently, very much a Christmas tradition. Similar to a ginger bread cookie.
If you’d like to give these spice and molasses [...]

Planning Your Holiday Baking

Planning holiday baking is a really important step. Especially if you have a lot of baking to do for holiday gifts. So whether you are baking at home, or are planning a cookie bake for friends and family, here are some important steps to remember.
Sit down well in advance and pull out all your recipes. Make a [...]

How To Paint Cookies

December 19th, 2008

My guest blogger has absolutely outdone herself. These cookies are not only yummy, but they’re positively gorgeous too! Here’s her post:

When I was little, I would go to the store every weekend with my mother to pick up groceries. My favorite part of the store, naturally, was the bakery. Sweet smell of cakes, sometimes a [...]

I really debated about this recipe because in my book, these aren’t really cookies. But then, I’m a cookie snob. In my opinion, they’re just crackers with coating. But for many folks, they are cookies. Good cookies. And I’m sure they taste just wonderful. It’s a hard combination to beat.
Since so many of you will [...]

If you want to try your hand at making a gingerbread house this year, but don’t want the fuss of baking everything yourself, try a kit!
This cute little house can be decorated any way you choose, and is a wonderful project for the kids when it’s too cold to play outside. (You know how fussy [...]

Kringla Cookies

December 5th, 2008

I recently broke my tailbone.
I know, it seems irrelevant. This is a cookie blog, not a health and fitness blog. But when you’re carrying around something referred to as a “donut” for weeks and can’t do a thing without it, somehow you tend to think more about luscious, sweet fluffy and sinful concoctions that you’d [...]

My guest blogger Robin, has agreed to create a recipe just for The Cookie Blog and you, my readers!
Nowhere else will you find this recipe. This is a Cookie Blog special. So break out your mixing bowls and haul out your KitchenAid. These cookies are absolutely divine!

Traditional Ginger Bread Cookies

November 19th, 2008

There is just nothing in this world like the smell of baking gingerbread cookies. They are so traditional at this time of year, and they make wonderful gifts as well. But did you know:
Legend credits gingerbread to the ancient Chinese, who packed ginger-spiked honey cakes as rations for the soldiers of Genghis Khan. Crusaders encountered [...]

Persimmon Cookies

November 17th, 2008

Persimmons. There really is no other fruit that so specifically speaks to this time of year. You can’t help but think of fall and the fall holidays when you see a beautiful bowl of these amazing little fruits.
I had never considered making persimmon cookies though, until I read a post by a fellow blogger.
Nicole gives [...]

Giving Cookies As Gifts

November 7th, 2008

If you’re like me, you know that cookies are a gift that just never seem to last very long. But hey, that’s a good thing, right? I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Everybody loves a good cookie!
When you are giving cookies as a gift, however, you want them to be a bit [...]
