Top 10 Cookie Stocking Stuffers

December 1st, 2009

I just couldn’t resist the opportunity to share some fun stocking stuffers with you this year. I would love to find these things in my stocking, and I’m betting there is at least one person on your list who would love these too.

If you bake Christmas cookies every year, but want to try something new this time around, then this is a fantastic book to get you started.

I love that it tells you where all the cookies originated from. A Baker’s Field Guide to Christmas Cookies truly is a field guide for holiday cookies.

I don’t really like to feature “brand name” recipe books, because: a) I’ve always been disappointed in the recipes and cookies, and b), I don’t like baking from a recipe that tells me which brand name ingredient to use. It’s annoying.

But this book was honestly the exception. With over 300 recipes and tons of hints and tips, I just had to feature this one.

The Craft Of Baking

October 18th, 2009

I’m very excited to share this book with you today. It’s brand new, and hasn’t even been released yet. But you can pre-order. The book will be available on the 27th of this month. It’s called: The Craft of Baking: Cakes, Cookies, and Other Sweets with Ideas for Inventing Your Own.

If you love the idea of creating fabulously beautiful cookies, then I have the book that can show you how.
Creative Cookies: Delicious Decorating for Any Occasion is one of the best cookie decorating books I’ve come across so far. The photos are amazing, and the instructions are very detailed and easy to follow. The layout [...]

The Sunday Review – Brownies

September 27th, 2009

I’ve avoided featuring brownies on this blog for a long time, simply because I’ve never been quite sure if they actually qualify as a cookie. But since I love brownies, and technically, they fall under the “bar cookie” category, I broke down and decided to start including them in my blog.
So I thought I’d start [...]

Wow. This book is 144 pages of totally luscious cookie goodness. It has recipes for every occasion, and really lives up to it’s title -  Celebrating Cookies .
The beautiful cover photo is only a hint of the amazing cookie photos you’ll find inside along with fabulous recipes for every thing from cookies for kids to [...]

This whole week has been about Chocolate Chip Cookies. So what better focus for a Sunday Review than a recipe book on the same subject?
This book is so yummy! The recipes are easy to follow, and the cookies turn out wonderfully! Plus, there are plenty of other desserts you can make too!
If you love Chocolate [...]

The end of summer is arriving. School is right around the corner (if it hasn’t started already) and you know what that means. The holidays are coming! ~Gasp~
I know, I know. That’s not what you wanted to hear. But let’s face it. August is disappearing faster than you can blink and so is the entire [...]

I’ve never done this before. But then, I’ve never blogged about a cookie company that wrote their own book before either. So this Sunday Review is a bit unique.
You see, yesterday, I blogged about The Flour Pot [...]

I would like to start off by saying that the photo of this book absolutely does NOT do it justice.
I was surprised last week when I received this book in the mail to review here on my blog. I have honestly never seen such a beautiful book in all my life. Even the page edges [...]

If you’ve ever thought about trying to make your own cookie bouquets, then this book,  Cookie Bouquets, Delicious Designs, is a must read. While the bouquets shown are basic, this is a fantastic book for the beginner.
I mean, let’s face it. Ordering a cookie bouquet is EXPENSIVE! Who has that kind of money in this [...]

Okay guys. I realize this is a family friendly blog. So I should tell you that if you are easily offended, this may not be the post for you. But I just HAD to share this book with you guys.
Make sure the kiddies are out of the room and then proceed.
The Cookie Sutra: An Ancient [...]

I do many book reviews on books I either already own, have borrowed from friends, or checked out of the library. I always love trying new recipe books, but usually end up with older ones.
So it was a really refreshing change when I was asked to review a brand new eBook called Sweet Freedom: Desserts [...]

I have a really fun book for you this week. Cookies Galore is filled with unique recipes and attractive photos.
While there are a couple of recipes that don’t have the flavor they promise, all in all, the recipes turn out great.
The layout of this book and the photos really draw you into the world of cookies. [...]

Okay. So this book isn’t only about cookies. But I’m a firm believer that every baked goody, especially a chocolate one, deserves a chance. And as the cover says…. cookies are definitely on the menu!
You see, while this is strictly a cookie blog, I could never pass up a chance to share a good chocolate [...]

If you live in higher altitudes, no doubt you’ve had a few “flops” in the kitchen. Baking cookies is no exception.
Cookies baked at higher altitudes need recipe adjustments just like any other baked goodie. Without adjustments, your cookies can become rock hard pancakes in the oven.
While you may want to keep a few of those [...]

Field Guide to Cookies: How to Identify and Bake Virtually Every Cookie Imaginable, is a really fascinating book. It’s very small in size, and reads more like a how-to manual than a cook book.
This lovely little book makes a fantastic gift. I gave one to my best friend for her birthday last year, and she’s [...]

Happy Mother’s Day!
We celebrated last night with the family, and today is just a lazy day of reading and relaxation for Mom (that would be me.).
My husband didn’t think this was the most romantic gift he could give me, but I convinced him that this is what I wanted.
If you want to understand the basics [...]

Well, it is Sunday after all.
I belong to the Church Of The Almighty Cookie, and this is my official Bible!
This book is wonderful. It’s great for beginners or experienced cookie bakers alike.
It’s well organized, the instructions are easy to follow, and the cookies do actually turn out looking like they do in the photos.
Cookie Bible is [...]

This is one of the many cookie books that sit on my bookshelf. In fact, I have a whole wall of nothing but recipe books. 4 of the 7 shelves are filled with cookie recipe books. It’s a sickness, I know. But in a world of booze, cigarettes and recreational drugs, I’ll take my habit [...]

Many of you that come to my blog, do so for cookie recipes that use natural sugars such as honey, rice syrup or agave. If you’ve baked with these natural sugars in the past, you know that the unique attributes they provide are unsurpassed in quality, texture and flavor.
I started to bake with natural sweeteners [...]

My mom has this one. It’s a fun book. My favorite recipe is the same as my moms – Espresso Biscotti. Oh yum!
Biscotti takes a bit of patience, but it’s so worth the wait! Plus, you get a bunch of other recipes for low fat cookies as well.
Biscotti & Other Low Fat Cookies: 65 Tempting [...]

I have to admit. I was a bit skeptical when I bought this book. I’ve grown up baking my cookies. And believe it or not, I’ve never made a “no-bake” cookies.
That’s right, ladies and gents, I was a “no-bake” cookie virgin. But I’m afraid everyone loses their innocence at one point or another, even I.
I finally [...]

Many of you know that I called my grandmother, “Ohma”. Yes, it’s actually spelled, “Oma”, but being raised here in America, I spelled it with an “H” because that’s the way it sounded. Nobody, not even my Ohma, ever corrected me. So to me, she is, and always will be, Ohma. I thought of her [...]

I admit that this week’s featured recipe book is not solely about cookies. But I like a multi-purpose recipe book anyway.
If you are Vegan, this is the “goodie book” for you! Vegan cookies, cupcakes, pies and cakes galore.
The Joy of Vegan Baking: The Compassionate Cooks’ Traditional Treats and Sinful Sweets is a fantastic book! The gingerbread [...]

I have so many readers who come to my blog looking for cookie recipes that don’t include eggs. So I thought I would take a look at some books that have these kinds of recipes. I don’t actually own this one ~ gulp! ~ but I did check it out at the library so I [...]

Ladies and Gentlemen.
I give you, what is quite possibly, the one and only cookie recipe book you should ever own (if you like chocolate, that is).
I ran across this book at a used book store last night. Death By Chocolate Cookies is an amazing book. With recipes like Chocolate Pecan Tart Cookies and Chocolate Mango [...]

If you are serious about the cookies you bake and the way you decorate them, then this is the book for you!
Cookie Craft: From Baking to Luster Dust, Designs and Techniques for Creative Cookie Occasions.
This incredible book will show you how to create those amazingly beautiful cookies you usually see in expensive bakeries.
The instructions are [...]

I’m a sucker for a really chewy cookie. But I do know people that prefer a crispy one. If you have a recipe you really like, but wish you could “tweak” it a bit to make it a little more, or a little less chewy, here are some ideas to help you.
1. Would you like [...]

There’s no better way to create fun, family memories than by baking cookies with the kids.
Both of these books are by Joanna Farrow, and are all about creating those memories.
They are full of recipes that you can make for your kids, and lots of easy recipes that your kids can make themselves.
Can you see yourself [...]

If you’ve ever picked up a Williams Sonoma cookbook, you’ve probably gotten lost in the wonderful photos and recipes. I just can’t get enough of these books. The recipes are always great, and I could just drool over those photos for hours.
Their cookie book is no exception. Don’t you just want to reach inside that [...]

Love her or hate her, the woman does know her way around a kitchen. Cookies are no exception.
I drooled over Martha Stewart’s “Cookies” book and the photos inside it for a long time before I bought it. Now that I have it, I wonder why I waited so long. The recipes are fantastic.
While I must [...]
