How To Care For Your Cookie Cutters

If you’re like me, at one point or another, you’ve had a ton of cookie cutters that tend to rust as the years roll on. I use tin cookie cutters that belonged to my Oma. I’ve slowly replaced them over the years, not understanding why they would rust or “spot”.

Eventually, I got tired of throwing away all my grandmothers cookie cutters. So I did a little research.

If you’ve ever wondered how to care for these little tools, here’s the definitive guide for caring for, and storing your cookie cutters.

Cookie Cutter Care

Once your last batch of cookies is in the oven, wash your cookie cutters with soap and warm water. Never use bleach.

When you pull that last batch of cookies out of the oven, turn the oven off, and allow to cool slightly.

Put all your cookie cutters on a clean cookie sheet. Place into the oven. This will dry your cookie cutters completely, leaving no water to rust or damage them during storage.

Cookie Cutter Storage

I use a large Tupperware container for my cookie cutter storage. It keeps the moisture out, and the cutters clean. It also allows a minimal amount of particles into the container keeping contaminants out.

Happy Baking!

Hi! I am an AP English senior from MA and I’m doing a research paper on cookie cutters! I was wondering if you have any input or suggestions of where I could go to do some field research? Thanks so much!

    Hi Mary,

I’m not sure what type of information you need, but I think it would be best to contact cookie cutter manufacturers directly. If you can’t find any, let me know and I’ll put you in touch with a couple.

    Take care,
    Tiffany
