Wow.
It’s November.
Can you believe it?
I’m having a hard time with the fact that Halloween is over. I mean lets face it. At this point, the holidays are going to ZOOOOOOMMMM past us at roughly the speed of light, leaving us a bit haggard, a little broke, and definitely… a few pounds heavier.
So here’s my philosophy on the whole thing. If you’re gonna be tired and a few pounds heavier anyway, at least have some fun getting there!
I mean, don’t you want to look back and say, “ya, I have to lose a few pounds, but boy was it worth it!”
I know I do. And since I’m the cookie girl in my family, it’s imperative that my cookie baking supplies be well stocked. I mean, what would my Thanksgiving table be without my turkey cookies, hmmm?
It would be mayhem, that’s what! The world would stop spinning, and there is a real chance some people might pass on due to a lack of turkey cookies. So to keep this from happening, I had to restock on a couple of my old favorite cookie cutters for Thanksgiving baking. (I lost some when we moved. I hate moving.)
The two cookie cutters I had to replace were:
R & M International Turkey Cookie Cutter – Can’t have Turkey Cookies without a turkey cookie cutter!
R & M International Oak Leaf Cookie Cutter – 3½” – Gotta have an oak leaf cookie too!
I also got an acorn cookie cutter. I’ve never used one before, so I’ll have to see how they turn out. I’m not the greatest cookie decorator (I envy the people that are!), so this should be interesting. But I usually do okay when I use colored sugar. So I think I’ll stick with that this year. It’s easy, it’s pretty, and it makes a good presentation. After all… presentation is half the meal, right?
Oh! And just so you don’t think I forgot my above checklist…. here’s a great cookie recipe from Nigella Lawson and The Food Network to use with those new cookie cutters!
So get ready, cause the holidays are officially in full swing. Are you prepared?
I’d love to hear your stories. What do you do to prepare for the upcoming holiday season?
Happy Baking!

Since we have already had Thanksgiving here in Canada we are forced to eat Halloween candy until we begin our Christmas baking.
