I would like to make a short announcement, and then I’ll move on to The Sunday Review.
In an effort to become a better cookie resource for you, my readers, I will no longer be doing The Sunday Review. From this point forward, all my posts will be cookie recipes. I will still occasionally feature small cookie companies around the nation and do a random product review here and there, but for the most part, this blog will now be all cookie recipes, cookie resources and cookie baking tips, all the time.
So I hope you will enjoy this last Sunday Review.
And now, on to the review…
A while back, I did a review on a cookie decorating book from The Flour Pot Bakery.
They recently sent me a free book for review. I have to tell you that this second book of theirs is even better than the first. The cookies are so impressively beautiful!
And the best part is, they show you how to make these stunning cookie creations at home!
This book has everything in it from candy cane cookies to little NY taxis carrying Christmas trees on their roofs.
But I think my absolute favorite cookie is the Christmas Mouse entitled “not a creature was stirring”. This little guy is just adorable! I might even have to overcome my fear of fondant and try him myself. He’s that cute!
The Contest
Since I like to give stuff away, I’d like to give you a chance to win one of these books straight from The Flour Pot to you. (Retails for $16.95)
Simply leave a comment below telling me what your favorite holiday tradition or memory is. One lucky winner (chosen by Random.org) will be chosen to receive this impeccably beautiful book.

Our family always has a cookie exchange at our Christmas get-together and we each make the same flavor cookie each year(all varieties that my mom used to make). I am in charge of making the candy cane cookies, and they are my favorite!

My favorite holiday tradition is baking cookies with my mother and grandmother while we listen to Christmas carols from Burl Ives and my little dog dances at our feet.
November 29th, 2009 - 9:51 am
My favorite Christmas memory is staying up late on Christmas Eve with my parents, and my dad and I would dance to Harry Connick Jr.’s “It Must’ve Been Ol’ Santa Claus” in front of the fireplace.

My favorite tradition at Christmas time is exchanging “the twelve days of Christmas” with my sisters…on the first day we give something relating to the number one, then the number two…etc. Usually the things are fun and goofy…we enjoy what each of us come up with….
I really enjoy your blog…I have baked MANY delights inspired by you…thanks for the fun..Jean

my favorite Christmas tradition is just sitting by the fire on Christmas Eve with my family. sometimes there is hot chocolate or eggnog involved, and maybe a game of cards or Trivial Pursuit.

My favorite Christmas tradition is decorating my home made sugar cookies with my sons. They are 22 and 7, and it’s fun to see how differently they decorate, from the flavors of frosting they choose to the different sprinkles on top.

My favorite tradition would be snuggling together in our Christmas Eve pajamas (the one gift the kids are allowed to open on Christmas Eve) watching The Polar Express, followed by The Nativity Story. *smile*
The other favorite would be making and decorating my goodie plated to give to family and friends. We recently moved and one special little neighbor asked me if I would still give them a goodie plate. She thought that since we moved across town they would be crossed off the list. I assured her that, yes, they would definitely be getting some goodies from me. She breathed a sigh of relief and hugged me, LOL!

My favorite holiday tradition is cutting down our tree the weekend after Thanksgiving it, and of course decorating it.
November 29th, 2009 - 5:31 pm
My favorite tradition at Christmas is making cookie trays for my neighbors. I bake around 17 different cookies/candies. It takes nearly 2 weeks, which is no small feat with 2 small children. But, the look on their faces year after year is priceless!

OH ME, ME! Decorated Sugar Cookies are my favorite thing about holidays!!
I would love to have this book for this season’s treats!!!
My favorite holiday tradition….besides the cookies….is one that I just started with my boys. Each year each son gets a new ornament for the tree – but I buy two of each one, one for the tree, and one goes into a keepsake box for when they move out of the house. So they can take a bit of the holiday tradition with them.
November 29th, 2009 - 6:11 pm
My family’s favorite holiday tradition is baking decorated sugar cookies, molded cookies and layered bars. We then wrap them festively and deliver to friends and family. It just puts us in the holiday mood as the sweet aromas fill our home.

when i first got divorced my kids were 3 and 5…now they’re 18 and 20…..it was tough being a single parent, working in retail and barely making enough to pay the bills…..i never really had any extra $$ for Christmas decorating….the first few years we made Christmas ornaments or snowmen out of salt dough just to have something to put on the tree……once things got better financially i was able to buy them each a new ornament every year…..now they have their own collection of ornaments so when they move out on their own they will be able to decorate their Christmas trees….

good luck with your new direction! it sounds great!!
holiday is about being with friends & family…their warmth & love.

Our favorite holiday tradition started when I worked nights in Los Angeles, working every Christmas eve. I would drive South Christmas morning, but we would not start the festivities until the evening. The whole day was spent getting ready and enjoying family and company, and gift giving didn’t start until after dinner!

Making and decorating cookies, of course! My mom always made spritz (and still does), so they are a must for my own home as well. Other “must haves” are gingerbread men and “exploding cookies” (which is what we always called Mexican wedding cookies because they exploded when we bit into them!)
November 29th, 2009 - 9:06 pm
My Favorite Christmas tradition is stringing popcorn to put on the tree. This year, my grand kids will be able to help with this. Maybe we’ll even string some gum drops to put on the tree too. They also enjoy making cut out cookies. They’re getting pretty good at it!
November 29th, 2009 - 9:25 pm
The Gingerbread Man. My mom has made gingerbread men from the same recipe since I was a tiny tot…and I’m 45 now. She’s still making them. (I think the recipe is from her 1950 edition of The Betty Crocker Cookbook). Because she has never changed her recipe, eating one instantly transports me back to childhood. I even eat them the same way: legs first, then arms, then torso from the bottom up. Silly, I know. But that’s part of Christmas. I hope it is for years to come, as well.
November 29th, 2009 - 9:55 pm
My favorite tradition growing up was we’d always pick a couple families/neighbors/friends and secretly do the 12 days of Christmas, leaving them little treats and things on their door, knocking and running. So fun! We’ve done that a few times since I’ve been married. (Sometimes if we travel for Christmas, it isn’t do-able.) Our latest tradition with the boys is making gingerbread houses on Christmas Eve.

My favorite tradition is having my mom come over for a baking day. We make all of our favorite holiday treats & split them between us. I love eating the treats as we make them.

going to my great, great aunts on christmas eve to get together w/ that side of the family. their tree was always so perfect in shape and w/ the same ornaments every year
